Meet the Team
Tamara Thorn is an herbalist, permaculturist, regenerative hemp cultivator, and holistic wellness educator. Her life’s work has centered around the belief that our bodies have the innate ability to heal themselves but sometimes need support returning to balance and full well-being. With more than 25 years of experience in herbalism and holistic wellness, Tamara has dedicated her life to studying the relationships between plants, the nervous system, nutrition, emotional well-being, and the body’s innate ability to restore balance.
Her studies and hands-on training have spanned a wide range of healing modalities, including herbalism, yoga, massage therapy, Reiki, BodyTalk, Quantum Healing Hypnosis, Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT), nutrition and various energetic therapies. These experiences shaped her integrative philosophy — one that recognizes healing as physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual.
Driven by a desire to live closer to the Earth and deepen her understanding of living in harmony with nature, Tamara spent years traveling through intentional communities, alternative homesteads, and even joined a horse caravan (@nomadsunited) to learn hands-on about indigenous and regenerative farming practices, herbal traditions, communal living and ancient wellness practices. Those experiences eventually led her into regenerative hemp cultivation and a deeper exploration of the Endocannabinoid System.
For the past 16 years, Tamara has cultivated hemp using regenerative and biodynamic farming practices rooted in soil health, biodiversity, and ecological stewardship. As founder and steward of Heal Thyself CBD, she has become known for combining potent plant medicine with education, helping people better understand cannabinoids, herbal wellness, and the importance of reconnecting with nature as part of a resilient, empowered approach to health.
Through Heal Thyself CBD, Tamara continues to cultivate medicinal herbs and hemp while creating handcrafted remedies, educational programs, and wellness offerings designed to help people take healing back into their own hands.
Joey Burger, known as “The Humboldt Local,” is the Head of Cultivation and Solventless Extraction for Heal Thyself Gardens, as well as a Regenerative Farming Consultant, Dragonfly Earth Medicine Pure Certified Educator, and Permaculture Teacher with over 30 years of experience in the Emerald Triangle farming industry of Northern California.
Joey began studying Permaculture in 1998 under instructors Tom Ward and Scott Pittman before being mentored by educator Nadine Chapdelaine, launching a lifelong path in regenerative cultivation and ecological design.
From 2009 to 2020, Joey founded and operated Trim Scene Solutions Inc., one of the first retail businesses dedicated specifically to hemp harvesting, processing, and extraction equipment.
In 2017, Joey earned Dragonfly Earth Medicine Pure Certification for his licensed Recreational farm in Mendocino County and became certified to teach Permaculture Design Courses through instructors Andrew Millison and Rico Zook. In 2023, he became certified to teach JADAM Ultra Low Cost Farming and had the honor of teaching alongside JADAM founder Youngsang Cho during his North American teaching tour stop in Sebastopol, California.
Through Heal Thyself Gardens, Joey combines regenerative farming, natural medicine, and solventless hashmaking into a single-source approach rooted in biodiversity and living soils. His work focuses on helping shift hemp and food production away from extractive systems and toward closed-loop regenerative practices through workshops, consulting, community education, seed preservation, and online teaching.
Joey has consulted on regenerative farming projects worldwide and in 2021 designed and built the licensed acre-scale hugelkultur garden known as Hugelville. Today, he continues cultivating craft hemp, breeding seeds, producing solventless hash, crafting natural farming inputs, hosting community events, and helping build Thrive Homestead Community in Lake County, California.
